Trekking in the Footsteps of Berbers and Nomads 8 Days / 7 Nights

EXCURSION PROGRAM

Day 1: Arrival in Djerba

Arrival in Djerba. Transfer and check-in at the hotel. Dinner and overnight stay in Djerba.

Day 2: Douiret and Chenini

Breakfast, departure to Douiret for a guided walking tour of the ancient abandoned Berber village. Lunch in Douiret. In the afternoon, hike from Douiret to Chenini with the guide. Dinner and overnight stay in a troglodyte guesthouse in Chenini.

Day 3: Guermessa

Breakfast, departure to the citadel ksar of Guermessa, another abandoned Berber village reached after about 4 hours of hiking on the Dahar mountains trails overlooking the Djeffara plain. Lunch, then drive to Zamour. Dinner and overnight stay in a guesthouse.

Day 4: Zammour and Toujane

Breakfast, departure to Toujane, where you arrive after about 5 hours of hiking on a rocky trail winding among wadis. Lunch, then drive to Matmata. Dinner and overnight stay in a troglodyte.

Day 5: Trekking in the Desert

Departure by car to Douz towards the Sahara after visiting the Sahara Museum dedicated to the organization of nomadic life in the desert. Meet the camel drivers and their camels and start the trek. Dinner and overnight stay in a bivouac camp with Berber tents set around a campfire.

Day 6: In the Sahara

Saharan breakfast and departure of our caravan consisting of a cook, a guide/camel driver, and his camels. Lunch between the dunes. Dinner and overnight stay in a bivouac.

Day 7: Return to Djerba

Breakfast and breaking camp. Progression of our caravan as we begin the return journey to the old sand-covered village of Zaafrane. Lunch and return to Djerba. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 8:

Breakfast and transfer to Djerba airport.

- Accommodation for 1 night at Touring Hotel or similar on Half-board basis
- Accommodation for 1 night in a guesthouse in Chenini on Half-board basis
- Accommodation for 1 night in a house in Zemmour on Half-board basis
